N.Y. (WKBW)- Many communities are running cooling centers where people can go to enjoy the air conditioning.

Eden Town Hall was open to the public until 4 p.m. then, volunteer fire departments in the area took over. Lake Erie Beach, Evans and Evans Center Fire Departments have cooling rooms where people and pets can cool off. They will be open until about 9 p.m. or until the temperature cools down.

"Not everyone has air conditioning in this world. This community has a wide range of very poor people and some very well off people. We're concerned that people's health is taken care of," Town of Evans Supervisor Fran Pordum said.

They may reopen the centers tomorrow if the temperature remains high. Pordum said this is a proactive approach in preventing any heat related illnesses or deaths.
