Town of Tonawanda

On August 30th the family of a Dupont Avenue home in the Town of Tonawanda reported their dog Gizmo was stomped to death while he was playing in the front yard.

One of the residents of the home, 14 year old Devon Leonard, told investigators two unidentified teenagers kicked and stomped the dog to death right in front of him.

Now, 30 days later police say they have identified the person responsible for Gizmo's death and they have ruled out the fact that two random attackers were involved.

"The case did have some unique elements that puts us in the position where I have to speak in code. People are going to connect the dots and make their own assumptions and I'll leave that up to them. At this point we're pretty much just sticking to the conclusion and that we are relieved that the case was resolved and that we can put it behind us," said Lieutenant Nick Bado of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department.

The suspect will be charged with two misdemeanors but because of restrictions with the case investigators can not say what the charges are or reveal the name of the person charged.

The SPCA performed a necropsy on Gizmo which determined he died from blunt force trauma. At this time police are not saying whether Gizmo's death was intentional or not.
