(Lockport, N.Y.) Lockport Police have arrested and charged a Niagara County mother after her 3-year old child was found wandering, all alone, outside the Niagara Hotel in Lockport.

The little boy was wearing no shoes or shirt and had apparently crossed the street near North Transit Road in the dark early morning hours.

A bartender inside the Niagara Hotel spotted the toddler around 2am and ran outside to get him.

"All he kept saying was that he wanted his mommy. He couldn't find his mommy," says bartender Devin Goff.

The child's mother, 22-year old Samantha Boyd has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child - a Class 'A' misdemeanor.

"Our goal here is not to punish the mother, our goal is to make sure it doesn't happen again," remarks Lockport Police Chief Larry Eggert.

The child's safety will now be monitored by county welfare workers.
