Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- Western New York area Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop restaurant owners are bringing back the smiles with their Smile Cookie fundraiser beginning February 2.

While supplies last, Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop guests can purchase a special "smiling" chocolate chip cookie with a smiley face made from frosting for only $1, plus tax, at any western New York restaurant. All proceeds directly benefit the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo to establish the Tim Hortons Children's Care Center for Injury Treatment and Prevention.

By October 2012, Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop restaurant owners will surpass their original fundraising goal of $500,000 one year ahead of planned.  Since the fundraiser's inception in 2003, a total of $572,000 has been raised for the local hospital.

"Our guests very much look forward to our Smile Cookie fundraiser," said Wendy Clark, local Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop restaurant owner. "It makes them feel good knowing that they are making a contribution to improve the health and well-being of others."

The Buffalo Smile Cookies sell out quickly-often in less than five days. On average, a  Smile Cookie sale raises $60,000 during one promotion period.

"Programs like Tim Hortons' Smile Cookie fundraiser helps us continue our mission of providing exceptional care to the many patients we are so privileged to serve," said Cheryl Klass, president of Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo. "The kindness of the Buffalo community and surrounding suburbs, and the generosity of these local business owners are immeasurable."
