TOWN OF HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) -- A beautiful, sunny day brings the crowds out to the Erie County Fair grounds in Hamburg. Big crowds mean good business for food stands like Lavery Concessions. But, as the temperature rises on the midway...the heat really builds when you are working over the cook top. "It's pretty hot...especially with stoves on all day and a fryer back there. So, it gets pretty sweaty. I'd rather have it nice and sunny, than rainy," said Grace Maecker, as she took orders behind the counter.
Kayleen Hanley works side by side with Maecker. "We stick gloves that we freeze under our hats usually. We freeze some water in the gloves and put them on our bodies. We get breaks every couple of hours, so we walk around and get ice cream cones," she added.
At the 4H Showplex, it was a big day for swine. Competitors in various ages and classes went snout to snout for best breeding honors. A beauty contest of sorts...kicked off the Ultimate Night of Destruction at the fair's track. The crowd got to vote on the best looking bus. Before the night is over, they'll all be on their way to the junk yard...victims of a crash filled race later in the night.
The program kicks off with monster trucks crashing their way down the track. Next on the agenda, figure eight racing. It's a big crowd pleaser as cars bump and crash their
