BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The owner of three pit bulls was charged with three misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals on Friday after his landlord discovered a female pit bull chained in the attic and two of her puppies in a bedroom closet.

"I kept hearing this crying," said property manager Bobbie Light. "What is that noise? And I turned around and I see a puppy's head. And then I moved closer and the one was so skinny."

All three dogs are emaciated. Their ribs could be seen through their skin.

SPCA Animal Control Officer Michael Armatys said all three are underweight and may not have eaten in weeks.

"No food, no water. It's horrendous. It's just uncalled for," he said. "If they didn't want them, they could have called the SPCA."

The staff at the SPCA named the male puppy Christmas and the female puppy Eve. All three are doing well and could be up for adoption in a few months.
