BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - More than 3,000 individuals spent much of their Wednesday volunteering as part of the United Way's 18th Annual Day of Caring.

3,500 volunteers contributed at 156 project sites spread throughout Erie and Niagara Counties.

Workers from Praxair and Erie County Senior Services were at Buffalo's Central Terminal, chopping out weeds for a new garden and scraping down the double sidewalks.

Nearly 300 workers from M&T Bank were at the Babcock Street Boys & Girls Club, helping to freshen up the building with a new coat of paint while others were busy building a new baseball diamond.

Over the past 17 years of the event, Day of Caring volunteers have performed more than 360,000 hours of service, helping local non-profit agencies save around $6 million.
