Thousands of Native Americans, in colorful traditional regalia, came together for a special event Sunday.

More than 375 Native American dancers and singers, from various tribes, took part in a Pow Wow at Veterans Park in Salamanca.

By definition, it's a gathering of North America's native people. However, the event had a twist. It was a competition.

Thousands of dollars in prize money were up for grabs.

The dancers displayed the routines they have been working on for months in front of judges in hopes of earning first place.

The hot sun didn't stop the dancers, who continued their high energy routines throughout the afternoon.

While the event is a competition, many telling us the Pow Wow means so much more.
