This Week at Canalside

July 8, 2011 Updated Jul 8, 2011 at 5:29 PM EDT

Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- There are 22 events scheduled at Canalside over the next week. And every one of them is free to the public.

Starting July 8 and continuing through Sunday evening, the story of the building of the Erie Canal will be told through “Clinton’s Ditch” – an original play by Anne Paris and Hugh Pratt, directed by Dan Shanahan of Torn Space Theater.

The “Story of Buffalo” continues in song and live performance with free concerts from Dave Ruch and one person shows based around the lives of William Douglas (“Dug’s Dive”) and Sal McMurray (“Erie Canal Sal”.)

Explore & More Children’s Museum and the Buffalo Museum of Science/Tifft Nature Preserve offer hands-on activities for children, and if you are interested in staying in shape, there are a variety of exercise classes taking place right on the Central Wharf.

If your tastes run more to the “Rat Pack”, Jack Civiletto will be singing Sinatra-style saloon songs on the USS Little Rock this Wednesday.

On Thursday, Canalside hosts its third “Thursday at the Square” concert with Court Yard Hounds – which includes two of the three founding members of the Dixie Chicks.

History, science, health and music – there is something for everyone at Canalside this week.
