BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Democrat Andrew Cuomo declared victory in the race for New York governor around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night from his campaign headquarters in New York City.

In what was once a close race, Cuomo, the current attorney general, slowly crept up in the polls to take a double digit lead over Paladino, who was plagued by controversy in the final weeks of his campaign.

Cuomo will succed Governor David Paterson who replaced disgraced Governor Eliot Spitzer who left office in 2008.

Paladino hit the stage just after 11:30 p.m., and with baseball in hand, declared, "make no mistake, you have not heard the last of Carl Paladino."
