SALAMANCA, NY ( WKBW ) A Salamanca High School student is in custody, in connection with a lockdown there Thursday morning.

The 15 year old male student is now undergoing a mental evaluation at Olean Hospital after going on a tirade with a lacrosse stick and a pair of scissors.

The incident happened at Salamanca high around 9a.m. Thursday morning.

The student was called to the office where administrators were reportedly going to question him, and several other students, about an undisclosed incident.

The teenager became unruly and started shouting. He then bolted from the office, and the staff immediately called police.

The boy ran into a tutoring lab that was occupied by a teacher and one other student. They were both able to escape.

The teen then allegedly grabbed a lacrosse stick, and a pair of scissors, and threatened the staff and police.

A counselor was eventually able to talk the student into surrendering his weapons.

Gary Wind, Police Chief for Salamanca told Eyewitness News that he was threatening anybody that came into the room.

Robert Breidenstein, Superintendent of Salamanca Schools noted that there was a quick escalation with this incident. He added that the teen was a recent transfer to the school, and says the student never had any other serious issues.
