Buffalo, NY (WKBW) -A Buffalo teenager will now spend the next 21 years in jail for the shooting death of a 21-year-old. 18-year-old Joshua Nieves shot and killed 21-year-old Jay Nieves last May on Vermont Street in Buffalo. The men are not related. Witnesses and friends say the shooting stemmed from an altercation at a club. Relatives of Jay Nieves say he had stepped in to stop a fight and after he left the club, the teen spent the night looking for him. Joshua Nieves located the 21-year-old at a Vermont Street home, broke into it, and shot Jay Nieves several times. In January, Nieves pled guilty to first degree manslaughter.

"My brother had so much going for him. He would have been somebody in this life and it's just not fair," said Wendy Bonilla, Jay Nieves' sister.

Jay Nieves was enlisted in the National Guard and had just enrolled at ECC for Criminal Justice. His family says he aspired to be a police officer. In court Wednesday, Joshua Nieves apologized to the victim's family and asked for their forgiveness.
