Teen Killed by Train in Genesee County

BERGEN, NY (WKBW) - Police in Genesee County are investigating the death of a teen after he was struck by a train in the Village of Bergen.

Eric Wall, age 16, a student at Byron-Bergen High School was apparently running north along a sidewalk and under the pedestrian gate after it had lowered across the train tracks.

Wall was struck by a passing Amtrack train, and then thrown into the path of a CSX freight train headed in the opposite direction.

Officials opened the Byron-Bergen High School where grief counselors were made available Friday evening.

The Byron-Bergen Central School District issued a release obtained by Eyewitness News on Friday afternoon that reads: "The Byron-Bergen Central School District is mourning the tragic loss of a student in our high school. The student was killed earlier this afternoon in a tragic accident involving a train.

Our Crisis Response Team has been notified and support services are being organized to assist students, families and staff deal with this unfortunate event.
