Royalton, NY (WKBW) Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour tells us that a 15 year old is in fair condition tonight. His twin brother is charged with assault in the first degree for allegedly shooting him in the hip with a 20 gauge shotgun filled with birdshot.
Neighbors tells us that it happened on Riddle Road Monday afternoon in Royalton, outside Lockport. Neither parent was at home during the shooting. The boys' friend called 9-1-1. Sheriff Jim Voutour tells us there are other guns in the house. Tonight, they are investigating how the teen got access to the gun, and what may have lead to the shooting. "Anytime we have a shooting, we treat it as an assault first. We're still speaking with victim and the suspect, but there are indications that there was possibly some type of confrontation prior (to the shooting)."
Even though he is charged as an adult, the suspect's name is not being released because of his age. He is being held at the Erie County Secure Juvenile Detention Center on 10 thousand dollars bail.
