New York's public school teachers are the highest-paid in the nation. That's according to a new report from the Washington Post, which posted figures from the federal government. The average salary for a public school teacher in New York is more than $75,000, well above the national average of about $56,000. South Dakota has the lowest average teacher salary- under $40,000. Business First is preparing its Guide to WNY Schools and is breaking down local numbers for teacher salaries. We'll have those figures on Monday.

Some new college graduates are landing jobs.
D'Youville College kicked its first class of PharmaD graduates, out of a 57-student class, Business First says, only a few weeks after graduation, nearly all of them have found jobs or are continuing their education. D'Youville started the 4-year professional doctorate program in 2010.

Casa di Pizza is cooking up an expansion. The pizzeria is eyeing the OTB site on East Mohawk for its third operation. The sale price: $510,000. The deal is expected to close next month, but Casa di Pizza tells Business First that several contingency issues must be resolved first.
