The American Music Awards shook up the stage at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles with unforgettable performances and glitzy red carpet glam. Miley Cyrus purred her way through another performance. Taylor Swift won the night; she took home four awards. Plus, Lady Gaga revealed a historic affair in the heat of a show-stopping performance with R. Kelly.
WYRK's Breakfast Club, Clay Moden and Liz Mantel, joined the Good Morning team via phone to talk trends from last night's show. Country artists had a good night in L.A., Taylor Swift beat out popular artists like Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Bruno Mars for the top honor. Swift recieved the 'AMA Artist of the Year' award. She also one 'Favorite Female Country Artist' and 'Favorite Country Album,' but also showed her versatility as an artist, winning the 'Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist.' Taylor Swift has made a killing at the past couple of award shows, showing the loyalty of her fans. This is the third time Swift has won the 'AMA Artist of the Year.'
Other country artists that won last night include Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum and Florida Georgia Line ft. Nelly.
"Luke Bryan all he had to do was get up there and shake his thing and everyone loved it," said WYRK's Liz Mantel. "I think in country we have an advantage because it's not get up there and be as weird as possible."
But the Breakfast Club agrees that country had a good night last night. Luke Bryan beat out newcomer Hunter Hayes and long-time star Blake Shelton for 'AMA Favorite Male Artist of the Year.'
"The AMAs are voted on by the fans, so when it comes to artists like Luke Bryan and ladies like Taylor Swift, they have an amazing fan base," said WYRK's Clay Moden.
Mantel even brought up the Country Music Awards where she said Luke was shut out at the CMA's, but last night, he made a comeback with a little help from his adoring fans.
Congrats to all of last night's winners.
