Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- One Facebook “like” equals a $1 donation this month as the Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS joins with Buffalo City Mission to help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most this holiday season.

For every new Facebook user that “likes” the local food festival’s fan page -- www.facebook.com/tasteofbuffalopresentedbytops -- now through December 25, the Taste will make a $1 donation, up to $2,000, to the Buffalo City Mission.

“The Taste has a long tradition of giving back to local organizations that help to make a difference in the Western New York community,” said Mark Zawodzinski, 2011 Taste Chairman.  “We are excited to partner with Buffalo City Mission to not only help raise funds, but to also raise awareness of the variety of volunteer opportunities that are available for Western New Yorkers to give back this holiday season.”

In addition to the donation, the Taste is also highlighting various ways people can get involved in donating to or volunteering with Buffalo City Mission this holiday season on its Facebook page. The mission is currently accepting used clothing for men, women and children and is also looking for volunteers to help prepare and deliver meals to those in need on Christmas Day.

“We’re so grateful for our friends at the Taste of Buffalo in helping us fill empty plates and providing hope this Christmas Season through their Facebook promotion,” said Stuart Harper, executive director of the Buffalo City Mission. “Without the continuous support of our community volunteers who are willing to give up their time to give back to the community, we would not be able to prepare and deliver over 2,500 meals on Christmas Day to homebound families and senior citizens of WNY.”

The Buffalo City Mission, founded in 1917, is a non-for-profit organization that provides preventative, emergency and long-term recovery services to thousands of people who are homeless or impoverished. The Mission includes: Women and Children’s Shelter (Cornerstone Manor); the Men’s Community Center; the Mission automobile Vehicle Donation Program; and the Dick Road thrift store to better serve our community.
