Suspicious Person Attempts to Pick Up Two Pioneer Students

April 6, 2011 Updated Apr 6, 2011 at 4:15 PM EDT

Yorkshire, NY (WKBW)

Here's the latest statement and phone message sent to parents in the Pioneer School District from Superintendent Jeffery Bowen:

"This is Jeffrey Bowen, superintendent of Pioneer School District, sending you an urgent message from the District. Two middle school students in the Yorkshire area recently were approached by an unknown white male while at their bus stop ordering them to get into his vehicle. NYS police and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office are investigating this incident. Please be on the lookout for a white SUV or minivan stopped at or near a bus stop and report this to the police if this appears suspicious in any way. We believe it's best to err on the side of caution. Thank you."

I hope to have more specific information from law enforcement very soon. At this point, we felt it best to caution our parents and students given the unusual circumstances. Our message was recommended by both Erie County and Cattaraugus County police officials.

Jeffrey M. Bowen, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
