New York, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly's battle with cancer continues.

A source close to the family tells Eyewitness News that Kelly is back at a New York City hospital with surgery tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

It was earlier this month that Kelly's doctors announced his cancer had returned.

In June of last year, Kelly underwent surgery to remove the left side of his jaw and teeth as a result of the disease.

As his fight for his life continues, Kelly is not alone. The community continues to rally around the Bills Legend. Through social media, Kelly's family continues to post pictures and updates.

Friends of Jim Kelly have told Eyewitness News about the inspiration Kelly is on and off the field.

"I know Jim will attack his recurrence with every ounce of determination and willingness to fight and win like he did on the football field," said Chris Spielman, a former teammate and friend of Kelly.

Dennis Haskins, who starred on 'Saved by the Bell' is a friend of Kelly's and said "He knows we're all pulling for him and obviously he knows he's got a tough test in front of him but Jim Kelly's never been in a fight that he didn't face head on."
