Convicted murderer Troy Davis was executed late Wednesday night at a Georgia prison, less than an hour after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay in his case, according to a USA Today story.

Davis, 42, was convicted of killing an off-duty Georgia police officer in 1989. According to the story, Davis maintained his innocence until the end, telling the slain officer's family that he was not personally responsible for his death.
