Superbowl XLVII Approaches, Bills Fans Reminisce

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW)- With Super Bowl XLVII just around the corner, local vendors are bracing for a busy weekend to help meet the demand of countless football parties. Even though the Buffalo Bills will not be taking to the field this Sunday, many believe the 'glory days' will come again soon.

"Buffalo fans rock. The Bills rock and they will come back," said Buffalo Resident Ramona Knight.

The Buffalo Bills still hold the record as the only team to win four consecutive Conference Championships, and the only NFL team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games. While it was heartbreaking to see four Super Bowl losses in the 1990's, the excitement and buzz throughout the city and beyond will never be forgotten. Former Channel 7 Sports Director Rick Azar, who covered the Bills for decades, describes the time as euphoric.

"The city went bananas and prior to the last run, we had the great comeback game against Houston," said Azar "That was the kick off to some great times of the Buffalo team. It was a terrific time and great for the city."

This year Super Bowl parties are being planned and local businesses are working around the clock. La Nova Pizzeria says it'll go through more than a thousand pizzas and tens of thousands of wings on Sunday. In additional, it'll ship out countless Fed-Ex orders across the country.

"You call tell it's Super Bowl time," said La Nova Owner Joe Todaro. "There's excitement here, but I wish it were the Bills. Maybe next year or the year after."
