BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The state will take over 400 acres of prime waterfront land including the NFTA Small Boat Harbor and Gallagher Beach, under a deal announced Thursday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will operate the marina and beach, which will probably allow swimming soon, while the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation will develop 130 acres to the north.

"Canalside finally is an investment in that way, it's a long time coming. And the Outer Harbor is going to be the next step in the development," said Cuomo, who announced the plan at Templeton Landing at the Inner Harbor.
