BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Drastic measures could be coming down the road for school districts statewide if they are unable to carryout state-mandated improvement plans.

The latest proposal would give the Board of Regents the ability to fire the school board and replace them with a "state-appointed" education oversight board.

If the proposed bill is passed, State Education Commissioner John King would be in charge of identifying which schools boards meet the criteria to be removed.

Also, over the next two months, the State Senate Committee of Education is holding several public meetings across the state to discuss the regents reform agenda.

A public hearing will be held in Buffalo on October 16th in the Common Council Chambers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
