CHEEKTOWAGA, NY ( WKBW ) They have the tuxes, dresses, corsages and the music, but this prom is an extra special event.
The "Prom" is a major milestone for any teen, and an emotional time for parents.
This event is made extra emotional because many of these parents of special needs children never thought they would get to experience it.
Katilin Hann's mother Susan Hann said, "It just gives you chills all over. These kids deserve it so much."
Joseph Gresock's mother Theresa commented, "He got to go to the tuxedo store and pick out the colors he wanted...so they really involve the kids in the preparation so they know that it's coming too. It's something the look forward to as well."
At ASPIRE fo WNY's Center Of Learning, they set aside a day in February to be the official prom for their kids who are physically and mentally disabled. The DJ, dresses, tuxes, and other party items are all donated.
Raising a special needs child is a difficult journey. It is a road often marked by the things kids can not do...so when these parents see their children dressed up and having fun.
