Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - After receiving layoff notices about a month ago, many Buffalo school teachers may be heading back to class.

Federal grant money will be used to cancel 60 layoffs. The board will also contribute $1.2 million from their contingency account, which is already in the budget.

This being said, not all teachers who lost their jobs will be asked back. The board doesn't think the district needs all the laid off teacher because of the decreased enrollment this upcoming semester.

"We would have like to bring back everybody but we have to work within our budget constraints we have," Board Member Christopher Jacobs said.

The board voted to hire a number of attendance teachers. They are spending more than $5,000 to help increase the amount of students showing up to school each day.

More than 100 teacher aid and assistance jobs are still in question at this time.
