Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - A little boy is spending his first day with his dad in more than a year -- if you would have asked him Tuesday morning, he never would have guessed it.

That's because little Nikye Shine's father kept the homecoming a secret.

Nikye knew it was a patriotic day in his Waterfront Elementary classroom. They had U.S. Flags and were learning special songs.

However, he didn't know that a special homecoming was around the corner -- with his father, who serves in the U.S. Army.

Antonio Shine had been in Kuwait for the last year, and has not seen his family since he left.

Antonio says "It was a pretty long tour away from the family. Like I said, I missed a lot of events."

Nikye's mother, Bianca, adds "Every night when it was time for bed, when he didn't want to go to sleep, he'd say I miss Daddy."

Antonio wanted to do something special for his son, saying "I just wanted to give him a big surprise when daddy came home, so I decided hey, I'm going to throw him a pizza party."

An amazed Nikye did not want to leave his father's arms.

Nikye and his classmates showed Antonio that even at a young age, Americans can be proud of our servicemen and women.

Pizza, flags and special patriotic songs -- it was quite the party for a young child. All that matters is that Antonio is back with his family.
