Soldier From Randolph, NY Dies In Afghanistan

RANDOLPH, NY ( WKBW / release ) The Department Of Defense has released information on the latest soldier to die while serving his country.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Timothy L. Johnson, 24, of Randolph, N.Y., died Sept. 16 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device at Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan according to a Defense Department statement

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. He worked as power generation equipment repairer.

Spc. Johnson joined the U.S Army in November 2007 and spent a year in Iraq prior to his tour in Afghanistan.

He received an Army Commendation Medal, among various military awards.

Spc. Johnson's death was one of eight Army and Marine casualties in Afghanistan announced today by the Defense Department.
