ELLICOTTVILLE, NY (WKBW-TV) - Newly fallen snow and cold temperatures have skiers and snowboarders happy tonight as many spent the day at Holiday Valley.

The popular ski resort in Ellicottville was packed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“We’re all skiing today,” said Mike Mckernan. “We have a group of friends here. Five of us are skiing. It doesn’t get much better than this.”

Temperatures and conditions have been anything but consistent this winter, making it a challenge for Holiday Valley to keep the slopes well-maintained.

“We have worked really hard this year, especially because we’ve had a lot of weather cycles up until this week,” said Holiday Valley Director of Marketing Jane Eshbaugh. “We work really hard on snow-making and grooming, to make sure that the surface condition is a nice skiable surface.”

If you’re not much for snow sports, you can also make your way into the village of Ellicottville for shopping, fine dining and more.

“We have so many different kinds of shops. Every one of them has a unique quality,” said Red Door Ski Shop Manager Liz Boberg.
