BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Singer Sheryl Lee Ralph visited Buffalo Friday to support The Community Health Center of Buffalo,Inc. Take a Lead in Building a HIV Education Collaborative

Sheryl Lee Ralph is an Actress, Singer, and HIV/AIDS Activist, and offered the Keynote to the World AIDS Day Event

LaVonne Ansari, Ph.D. CEO/Executive Director, Community Health Center Buffalo, Inc. welcomed Sheryl Lee Ralph, Actress, Singer, and HIV/AIDS Activist to Buffalo.

This was not the first trip Ms. Ralph made to WNY on behalf of others. Over 15 years ago, Ms. Ralph was part of the national cast of the Variety Kids Telethon aired on Channel 7 to raise money for Women and Children's Hospital and other Children's Charities.

The Community Health Center of Buffalo, Inc. (CHCB) hosted the gala focused on HIV and AIDS awareness to commemorate Worlds AIDS Day Friday. 2011 marks 30 years since the first case of HIV/AIDS was reported in the United States.

Recognizing that there are a number of dedicated community agencies in the region providing HIV prevention and treatment services, the CHCB has taken a lead in starting a collaborative conversation. The event program will include testimonies from two guest speakers living with HIV, recognition of community leaders that have been on the front line educating the public about HIV and a key note address by Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Ms. Ralph, a passionate AIDS advocate, is currently, touring the one-woman play, "Sometimes I Cry," a production written and performed by Ms. Ralph, which explores the lives, loves, and losses of women infected and affected by HIV. She is also the celebrity spokesperson for The National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the challenges of HIV/AIDS.

The event was held at the Templeton Landing, on the Buffalo waterfront.

The Community Health Center of Buffalo, located at 462 Grider Street, is a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides access to quality preventative and primary health care to individuals of all ages regardless of their ability to pay. Medical Services include: Internal and Family medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family Planning, (Rapid HIV Testing), Laboratory Services, Dental care, and a Pharmacy. Medical services are also available at the center’s satellite location in Niagara Falls, NY.
