BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - A large freighter carrying salt to Lackawanna became stuck in the waters of Buffalo's Outer Harbor Monday morning. The freighter was being escorted to the Port of Buffalo early this afternoon by two tug boats...to unload its salt. It had almost reached Port as of 2pm.
The ship became stuck early Monday morning in the soft mud directly in front of the U.S. Coast Guard station. Coast Guard officials tell Eyewitness News that no injuries were suffered and no environmental damage will result from the stuck ship.
Coast Guard inspectors boarded the ship to ensure nothing was leaking. Tug boats were eventually able to dislodge the ship just after Noon Monday.
