ERIE COUNTY, NY (WKBW/Release) - Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing that acting superintendent of the Jail Management Division (JMD), Thomas Diina, has been permanently appointed to the position effective immediately.
Diina, is an 11-year veteran of the JMD and was one of three finalists recommended to fill the five month long vacated position by the Superintendent Selection Committee.
The committee, which represented various elements of the criminal justice profession and community, met several times over the past few months before making their recommendation to Sheriff Howard.
Members of the committee included the following: Dr. Martin Floss, Director, Hilbert College Criminal Justice Graduation Program; Darius G. Pridgen, Councilman, City of Buffalo; Richard Savage, Superintendent (Ret) Gowanda Correctional Facility; Erie County Legislator Timothy R. Hogues, Chair of the Public Safety Committee; Leonard Pero, Supervisor of the Town of Brant and President of the Association of Erie County Government; and Lana Benatovich, President of the National Federation for Just Communities of WNY (NFJC).
Diina, is 37 years old and lives in Buffalo.
John Rodriguez, a 21 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, has been appointed 1ST Deputy Superintendent, Jail Management Division, at the Erie County Correctional Facility. He fills the position vacated by Superintendent Diina.
Paul Evans Sr., an 18 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office has been appointed Chief of Operations at the Erie County Holding Center. He fills the position vacated by 1ST Deputy Superintendent John Rodriguez.
