TONAWANDA, NY (WKBW) -- A powerful cold front brought damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours to most of our area Tuesday night. The day started with a tornado watch for part of the Southern Tier, including Mayville. Folks there say they pay attention more now that it seems to be becoming an active tornado area. Four tornadoes touched down across the Southern Tier just three months ago, including right in Mayville. "Your nerves go crazy!" one area resident said. "It's real now...before the last ones this summer I couldn't even tell you the last time we had tornadoes go through here."

In Tonawanda damaging winds ripped a metal roof from a garage, carried it over a house, then dropped it onto a truck. "I was in the house eating dinner with my daughter and had my baby girl in there, we just heard a huge crash," Glen Gynan, the owner of the truck, said. "Come outside and no power, and this is sitting on top of my truck here, and I thank God I wasn't loading the babies up to take them home."

As the metal roof flew over a house, a little girl witnessed it from inside the home. "I was looking outside and like everything was going around and I got scared, and then something went flying over the house," Natasha explained.

Natasha's father says soon after, they heard another crash and went outside to look. "Here's an air conditioner sitting in our driveway from next door," Tonawanda resident Steve Zarbo said. "We looked at each other like we were just out there, so that's pretty much the savings of God."

There were many other damage reports of trees and street lights down in places such as Cheektowaga, Celoron, Royalton Center, and New Albion.
