Serious Accident in West Seneca

WEST SENECA, NY ( release ) The West Seneca Police Departments Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a serious injury accident involving a female pedestrian, 14-year-old.

At about 5:00 pm on Thursday May 12th, the West Seneca Police Dispatch received a report of a pedestrian struck on Union Rd (RT 277) southbound just before the RT 400 overpass.

The initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian attempted to cross the four-lane highway from the west side of the road and was struck by a van in the southbound passing lane. The pedestrian sustained head and upper body injuries and was treated at the scene by Vigilant Fire Company.

Mercy Flight responded and transported the victim to ECMC were she was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the van stopped immediately and is cooperating with the investigation. Charges have not been filed pending the outcome of the investigation.

The accident is under investigation by AIU Lt. David Szmania and Lt. Edward Baker.
