Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Two drivers who struck and killed an 8 year-old boy more than a year ago faced a judge Friday. 19-year-old Brianna Hightower pled guilty to reckless driving after she struck 8-year-old Tumani Philbert in April of 2010 as he crossed over Porter Avenue in Buffalo.
Police say following the incident, Hightower's passenger, 21-year-old Lavon Turrentine got behind the wheel and then backed over the boy. Turrentine pled guilty to 2nd Degree Vehicular Manslaughter in the second degree. State Supreme Court Justice William Boller sentenced Turrentine to 2 and a 1/3 - 7 years behind bars.
Hightower received a conditional discharge in court Friday and a youthful offender status, since she was 18 at the time of the incident.
