BUFFALO, N.Y. ( WKBW ) Emotions ran high in a Buffalo courtroom Monday as Jose Mejia was sentenced for the shooting death of 22 year old Daryll Jones back in 2006.
Mejia was given the maximum sentence, three terms of 25 years to life in prison.
This was Mejia's second trial, and second conviction in this case.
His first conviction was overturned in 2007 because incriminating statements he made to police should not have been used in court.
Judge Penny Wolfgang denied all motions for a mistrial, and handed down the maximum sentence, which, at minimum would run 90 years in prison.
Members of the victim's family were in court, and spoke out after the proceeding.
Mejia's defense attorney did not comment.
