The Rotary Club of Buffalo hosted the lunch time debate at the Templeton Landing Restaurant. Republican Patrick Gallivan, Democrat Cynthia Appleton, and Tea Party candidate David DiPietro are challenging each other for New York State Senator Dale Volker's old position. Volker announced in April 2010 that he was retiring after 38 years in public service. He held the 59th State Senate Seat since 1975.

The 59th New York State Senate District includes parts of Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, and Ontario Counties.

There was a fourth candidate - Former Erie County Republican Party Chairman James Domagalski. He won the Conservative - Independence line but later withdrew from the race. Now Patrick Gallivan will be listed as the Republican and Conservative candidate.
