Buffalo, NY (WKBW)- Democrat Sean Ryan will now head to Albany after winning a special election to fill the state assembly seat for the 144th district. The seat was vacated by Sam Hoyt, who resigned in June to work within The Empire State Development Corporation. Hoyt served the in the state assembly for close to 2 decades. Ryan says his main focus will be to strengthen the district's neighborhoods. Ryan is a local public interest lawyer who has spent a majority of his career working with the homeless, victims of housing discrimination, and disabled children. Ryan admits he has some big shoes to fill, but is ready for the challenge and to help bring change. Ryan defeated Republican Sean Kipp and Green Party Candidate Gregory Horn.
