ScrabbleFest Kicks Off

January 14, 2011 Updated Oct 16, 2013 at 12:20 AM EDT

Amherst, NY (WKBW-TV)

Thursday night, the ScrabbleFest event kicked-off at the Barnes & Noble store on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst.
Twenty-two Scrabble enthusiasts came out for a fun and free Scrabble game. Each was paired with a player they had never met to play the game they enjoy so much. This was the first event of many to be held in the community for the next two months. ScrabbleFest is a fundraiser to benefit Literacy Volunteers in which people hold game night parties in their homes and invite friends to play, and ask for a donation to Literacy Volunteers from each player. The winner of each house party will play other winners at a final tournament March 13 to determine one community Scrabble champ.
