CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) - A Cheektowaga man says he is alive today thanks to a device implanted in his chest a year ago.

AngelMed is designed to detect a heart attack before it happens. We first told you about this device last year. It is not yet available to the public, but Dr. Irfan Khan, a cardiologist at Mercy Hospital has been conducting a clinical trial the past two years.

He implanted the device in 20 Western New Yorkers at high risk for a heart attack. The FDA will decided within the next year whether it will be allowed on the market.

Watch the story to find out how it prevented Vincent Totaro, a quadruple bypass survivor from what could have been a fatal heart attack. Eyewitness News Anchor Joanna Pasceri has his story.
