Buffalo, NY (WKBW)-The Buffalo Sabres is lending a helping hand to beautify Buffalo's waterfront. The organization has donated $120,000 to enhance 90,000 square feet of empty lots near the First Niagara Center. The three parcels of land are city owned and located on Buffalo's Central Wharf right next to Canal Side. According to city officials, the Sabres Organization will cover the costs of enhancements and landscaping throughout the parcels.

"We wanted to be good citizens. We wanted to be good neighbors and this is our home," said Cliff Benson, Buffalo Sabres Chief Development Officer. "So we were particularly interested in making this spot a beautiful place."

"We're seeing interest from investors form across the country and to have private corporations and organization like the Sabres to make donations for development really sends a positive message," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

Construction is expected to begin Wednesday morning.
