LOCKPORT, N.Y. ( Lockport Union Sun & Journal) — A man who called 911 just before 5 p.m. Saturday threatening to kill himself was found dead inside his Willow Street home late Saturday night.
Police had the street blocked to traffic between South Transit Street and Cottage Street as the man, believed to be armed with a high-powered rifle, held police at bay.
Police finally entered the home after 11 p.m. where they found the man's body, according to officials at the scene. A woman inside the home was also found, unharmed.
It is now believed that the man may have killed himself while on the phone with 911. Police didn't know that at the time and the neighborhood around Altro Park was quickly filled with more than 40 law enforcement officials.
A series of flashes and bangs took place at around 10:10 p.m., which officials said was tear gas fired into the home.
