Amherst, NY (WKBW) University of Buffalo's North Campus was one of fourteen colleges and universities across New York State to have students walk out of class in protest of budget cuts and looming tuition hikes.
New York State cut over 300 million dollars from SUNY this year and has paved the way for tuition hikes over the next 5 years. The student group that organized the protests, New York Students Rising (NYSR), is proposing that the top paid SUNY administrators cut their own salaries to help off set the cuts and tuition hikes.
Over one hundred people joined in on the walk out locally but the group became larger and larger as they marched across campus. NYSR plans on coming up with their own SUNY budget to present to the Governor's office later this year.
