CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW) -- 30 members of the Russian hockey team were kicked off a Delta Airlines flight Thursday morning at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

The team members were allegedly rowdy and drunk, according to eyewitnesses and airport staff members.

Delta Airlines released a statement from its Atlanta headquarters.

"To ensure the safe operation of the flight, the crew of flight 1266 (BUF-ATL) denied boarding to 30 passengers who were traveling together and displaying unruly behavior. The passengers are being re-booked on a future flight," said spokesperson Betsy Talton in an e-mail.

Some eyewitnesses said some of the players were vomiting at the gate.

Eyewitness News cameras were rolling when the team was standing in the airport's baggage claim area and boarding buses to a nearby hotel where the players will reportedly sober up.

Russian beat Team Canada and claimed the gold metal in the final game on Wednesday night at HSBC Arena.
