Car and School Bus Crash

TOWN OF GERRY, N.Y. ( nysp release ) Monday at approximately 3:52p.m., the New York State Police investigated a School Bus/Car personal injury accident that occurred on State Route 60, in the Town of Gerry.

The City of Dunkirk High School girls track team were on a school bus owned by First Students and headed south on State Route 60 on their way to Southwestern Central School. The bus was being operated by John R. Logsdon, 54.

A Chevy Blazer operated by Amanda S. Winhaber, 16, was headed south on State Route 60 directly in front of the school bus. Ms. Winhaber slowed down to turn left into a private driveway when the operator of the bus, who was not paying attention and lacking ample time to stop, veered to the left as the blazer was making the left turn and struck the driver side area of the blazer.

Ms. Winhaber sustained a broken wrist, thumb and concussion and was taken by Mercy flight to Hamot Hospital.

Both Mr. Logsdon and 22 students were taken to area hospitals and sustained minor injuries. The accident is currently under investigation.
