Robbery Arrest Becomes ICE Investigation

November 29, 2013 Updated Nov 29, 2013 at 10:46 PM EDT

NEWFANE, N.Y. (WKBW) Investigators with the Niagara County Sheriff's Office arrested 23-year-old Martin H. Reyes, Jr. of Olcott Friday afternoon, charging him with robbery and petit larceny.

Reyes was arrested in connection to a robbery at The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Newfane back on November 11.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office contacted agents at U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol after further investigation revealed Reyes was a citizen of Mexico. Investigators believe Reyes is in the United States illegally.

Reyes was arraigned in Newfane Town Court and taken to the Niagara County Jail, where his bail is set at $20,000 cash or $40,000 property. He is due back in court next week.

ICE also placed a detainer on Reyes, meaning he will be taken into federal custody once he is released from local custody.
