Residents of Winslow, Wohlers, Glenwood, Roehrer, and Storz Avenues in Buffalo joined forces on Saturday to reclaim their neighborhood. Volunteers spent the day cutting lawns and cleaning up vacant lots near Community School #53 in an effort to make the area safer for the students and improve the quality of life for everyone in the neighborhood.
"We got over 21 businesses on Jefferson Street to actually contribute and sponsor this, so that's big," says Maritza Ramirez of the Block Club Community Council, "This is a community at its best. I see oftentimes the news will get a lot of negative things on tv. Well, look at this -- this is Buffalo at its best right now."
This is not a one-time-only event. The Block Club Council says they're working on a series of projects to fix up the neighborhood.
