Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - A Buffalo Family is thankful to a good samaritan who helped rescue an elderly women and her friend from a burning home on Leslie Street. According to the victim's grandson, Derell Porter, the couple didn't realize their home was on fire and one of his friends helped them get to safety.

"My friend was helping my grandmother. She didn't even know the home was on fire," said Porter. "She's in a wheelchair most of the time and I just rushed over here and did what I could until the police and fire crews arrived."

Buffalo Firefighters responded to a vacant house fire early Thursday morning and believe the intense heat from the fire spread to the occupied home hours later. Both homes are next door to one another. Luckily no one was hurt. Damage is estimated at $50,000 to the home and its contents. Fire Crews believe 3 homes in total will have to be demolished. Both fires remain under investigation.
