Approximately 366 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes, according to data estimates released by the International Diabetes Federation on Tuesday.

The IDF also said in a news release that 4.6 million deaths per year are due to diabetes and that health care spending on the disease has reach $465 billion per year.

“IDF’s latest Atlas data are proof indeed that diabetes is a massive challenge the world can no longer afford to ignore," said IDF President Jean Claude Mbanya.
