NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW-TV) - The Rainbow Bridge is open now after authorities closed the bridge down around 2a.m. Friday morning.
According to the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition, the bridge was closed to traffic in both directions after what police activity to investigate a bag found on the bridge.
Both directions of the bridge reopened shortly before 5a.m. Friday morning.
Here is the latest information from the Niagara Regional Police:
On Friday April 8th, 2011 at 12:41am members of the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the Rainbow Bridge in response to a suspicious package. The origin of the package was unknown. Members of the NRPS Explosives Disposal Unit attended the bridge as a precautionary measure and deemed the packages to be safe.
The suspicious package was found to contain various articles of clothing and did not pose a risk to public safety. Investigation into the incident is ongoing as the owner of the bag is not yet known.
