Town of Tonawanda, NY (WKBW) - A 12-year-old boy who was pinned under a car Thursday evening has died.

The accident happened at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and Delaware Road. Police say it is a very busy but typically safe intersection, with a lot of cars on the road and pedestrians crossing the street.

Town of Tonawanda Police say at about 5:10 Thursday evening, a boy was riding his bike across Delaware Road at the intersection.

A car making a left-hand turn hit the boy and pinned him underneath.

It just so happens that an off-duty detective with TTPD and the Ellwood Fire Chief were nearby. They joined others to pull the boy from under the car before first responders nearby.

However, the boy died overnight.

Town of Tonawanda Police and the Erie County District Attorney's Office are investigating. A cause remains unclear. Lt. Nick Bado stresses that the DA's office is almost always involved with the investigation of a deadly vehicle accident.

As of now, no charges have been filed.

Police have talked to many witnesses from the intersection and have interviewed the driver.
